Creata in omaggio a uno dei primi strumenti da scrittura dell’epoca Art Déco, la superficie del corpo, realizzata mediante una tecnica speciale, sembra riflettere le alte facciate dei grattacieli della città in piena espansione, illuminate di notte. Senza fronzoli, ma con una luce verde che brilla come quella del molo della casa di Daisy ne Il grande Gatsby, l’emblema fluorescente Montblanc nella parte superiore del cappuccio cattura e immagazzina la luce durante il giorno, per poi brillare al buio. L’apparente potere del denaro è rappresentato in questa edizione da una clip finitura platino a forma di fermasoldi. L’apertura arrotondata è decorata con le iniziali di Jay Gatsby in versione monogramma romboidale finitura oro in stile Art Déco. Il mito del sogno americano e l’elegante design delle fiaschette del periodo Art Déco sono richiamati dal cono che imita il tappo inciso di una fiaschetta e dai raffinati anelli che lo circondano, nei colori della bandiera americana.

The dazzling New York of Gatsby’s time, whose glittering Art Deco skyscrapers stand out against the blue evening sky, inspired the design of the Special Edition Great Characters Homage to The Great Gatsby. Created in homage to one of the first writing instruments of the Art Deco era, the surface of the barrel, crafted using a special technique, recalls the high facades of the skyscrapers of the booming city, illuminated at night. Without frills, but with a green light that shines like that of the pier of Daisy’s house in The Great Gatsby, the fluorescent Montblanc emblem on the cap top captures and stores light during the day, to then glow in the dark. The apparent power of money is represented in this edition by a platinum-coated clip in the shape of a money clip. The rounded opening is decorated with Jay Gatsby’s initials in a gold-coated rhomboid monogram in the Art Deco style. The myth of the American dream and the elegant design of the flasks of the Art Deco period are recalled by the cone imitating the engraved cap of a flask and the refined rings surrounding it, in the colours of the American flag. The essence of the American dream come true is revealed when you remove the cap and see the handcrafted nib in solid Au 585 gold with rhodium finish, decorated with the image of Jay Gatsby’s luxurious car, described by Scott Fitzgerald as “a rich cream color, shiny with chrome [..] and covered with a maze of windshields that reflected a dozen suns”.
